In this article the author explores early development of identity as a writer Finnish-speaking poet Lovisa (or Isa) Asp (1853–1872). She wrote her lyrics in Finnish language 1870s, and she is regarded first 19th-century female (whose works were published Finnish). began writing poetry (initially Swedish) teenager started literary career contributor to children’s magazines. studies at Teacher Training College Jyväskylä autumn 1871 with aim working an elementary school teacher, but also dreamt becoming established someday. Unfortunately, death meant that most remained unpublished until 21st century.
